Grueby Pottery achieved renown in America at the 1901 Pan American Exposition in Buffalo.
The Hood Museum aquired the award winning Grueby vase from this Expo, titled ?vase for lamp?, it bears the strongest resemblance to this lamp, both marked with the insized numbers 146. A full 32.5 inch circumfrence sets this vase apart.
By 1905 a line of lamps paired Tiffany shades with Grueby ceramic vases. One such lamp sold at auction in June 1999 for $286,000. Our lamp is currently the only example of this design and form with an "Original LCT Pattern" water lily shade. A small professinal repair done in 1966 is undetectable to the eye. Never shown, photographed or offered in any sale, this is the first and only opportunity to purchase a museum quality Grueby Faience Lamp.
