Partly-printed DS, two pages, 9.5 x 13, July 20, 1883. Document charging the H. D. Printing Company with creating “nuisances affecting the security of life and health in Long Island City,” namely “offensive vapors, gases, and odors, and deleterious matter…allowed to escape into the atmosphere…That within three weeks…proper apparatus be constructed and put in operation for the complete condensation or combustion of all vapors and gases generated.” Signed at the conclusion by Cleveland as the governor of New York. Matted and framed to an overall size of 14.25 x 31. In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, a light brush to end of signature, and a few light creases. The gold foil seal is intact. An uncommon document in which the governor takes action to protect the environment. Oversized.
