Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 16.5 x 13, November 11, 1886. President Cleveland issues an unusual postmaster appointment. In part: “That Selleck Y. St. John, having been suspended from his office as postmaster at New Canaan, in the County of Fairfield and State of Connecticut…I do designate Lucius M. Monroe to perform the duties of said suspended officer, subject to all provisions of law applicable thereto.” Nicely double-matted and framed. In fine condition, with intersecting folds and light offset on the right from the seal on the left. Oversized.
