Group of three lacquer netsuke.
Early 19th century. The first, a seated monkey holding an upside-down Hyottoku mask to his face and in his right hand holding a Shinto rattle (suzu). 1 1/8in (2.9cm). The second, a manju, showing Lao-tze riding a mule accompanied by an attendant who carries a staff and gourd. 1 3/4in (4.4cm). The third, a multicolored lacquer Gama Sennin seated with his right hand resting on the head of a large frog. 1 1/2in (3.7cm). Provenance: The first, Ex Scott Meredith collection.
