<B>Group of Six Slavery Documents.</B></I> A diverse lot spanning some 70 years and covering varied geographic areas. Included are the following:<BR><B>Manuscript Document,</B></I> "<I>Return of the Constable of Cumberland Valley Township for August term 1798",</B></I> one page, 8.5" x 4.75", Pennsylvania. An accounting of rather eclectic subjects noting, among other things, that the jurisdiction had no "<I>…Negroes & mulatto slaves imported contrary to law…</B></I>". Uneven edges and expected browning, very good condition. <BR><B>French language Manuscript document,</B></I> one page, 7.75" x 6.25", New York, May 10, 1805. There is a reference on the second line to a "<I>negrette</B></I>". Large split with tape repair. Good condition.<BR><B>Manuscript invoice mentioning slave hire,</B></I> one page, 7.5" x 3.75", n.p., due January 1, 1858. One entry reads, "<I>…Credit by hire negro boy Riley 190.00…</B></I>". Minor stains, else very good condition.<BR><B>Partially printed tax receipt,</B></I> one page, 6.25" x 2", Frederick County (probably Maryland), 1860. Various categories of taxes are listed, including one for "Slave". Very fine condition.<BR><B>Partially printed Union Army pay voucher,</B></I> one page with verso docketing, 15.75" x 10", n.p., May 31, 1863. Monthly expenses for First Lieutenant Stephen Balk, 6th U.S. Cavalry are itemized here. Included is an allowance for a black servant, "William". Light aging, else fine condition.<BR><B>Scarce late Civil War slave appraisal.</B></I> Manuscript document, two pages, 7.75" x 10", Sumter County, Georgia, December 21, 1864. The estate of Drury Murray is valued and divided here. Nineteen slaves are named and distributed among Mr. Murray's beneficiaries. Some fading, small splits.
