The lot features a nice fully top beaded set of moccasins from the Gros Ventre Native American Indians of Montana and dating to the 1950's. The set shows early parfleche rawhide soles, which are most likely of an early 1900's pair that were repurposed on this fine set. The tops show a tanned hide with sinew sewing and glass trade seed beadwork in a geometric Buffalo track pattern having cross symbols. The beadwork shows some slight loss. The Gros Ventre Indian tribe (also referred to as the A'ani, A'aninin, Haaninin, and Atisina) are a Algonquian speaking people from the North Central Montana region. The Gros Ventre's migrated to Montana in the 18th Century due to pressure from the Ojibwe Indians. The moccasins measure 11" long by 4" at the widest.
