Griswold and Gunnison percussion revolver, .36 cal., 7-1/2” barrel, iron barrel assembly and cylinder, brass frame, back strap and trigger guard, wood grips, #1649. This gun is in overall good condition with a brown patina on the barrel assembly with scattered nicks and mars with areas of erosion and pin prick pitting; cylinder has a muted bluish patina with some moderate erosion on one particular area between two chambers and replaced nipples; the brass frame and straps have a pleasing patina with scattered nicks and wear from carry and storage, the grips are good overall with some scratches and nicks and well-fitted. The bore is good with some pitting, the action good overall but needs some timing adjustment, the serial # of 1649 is on the frame, barrel assembly and cylinder; #29 on the loading lever, the wedge and the brass trigger guard. The gun is also accompanied by a letter from the Antique Gun Shoppe of Post Falls, Idaho dated April 13, 2000 indicating this is a completely original Griswold and Gunnison revolver (except the aforementioned cylinder nipples). There is also an original letter from The Confederate States Armory and Museum, dated February 12, 2000 and signed by Frederick R. Edmunds of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania also describing this weapon and indicating his opinion that the gun is original. A hard-to-find Confederate revolver in overall good condition.
