Gregory Peck Shirt from Captain Newman, M.D.
This United States military shirt was worn by the character “Capt. Josiah J. Newman,” portrayed by legendary actor Gregory Peck, in the 1963 motion picture, “Captain Newman, M.D.” The long sleeved khaki shirt was custom made for Mr. Peck by Machin Shirtmakers of Los Angeles, and has the original tag sewn inside the collar with the actor’s initials “G.P.” stitched inside. The left shoulder of the garment is complete with the original screen used military patch, and the collar has been restored with two collar devices (captain’s bars and army medical collar pin) identical to the original screen used insignia as seen in the film. Mr. Peck appeared wearing this garment in numerous scenes throughout the film. “Captain Newman M.D.” featured performances from screen legends Gregory Peck, Tony Curtis, Eddie Albert, singer Bobby Darin, and a young Robert Duvall in one of his earliest screen roles. The picture was nominated for three Academy Awards and four Golden Globes in 1964, including “Best Actor” for Gregory Peck. The shirt is in excellent screen worn condition and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the costume house.
