Green Lantern had earned his own book after a successful run in <B>All-American Comics</B></I>, and this issue was really the start of something big -- except for taking the 1950s off, as did just about every superhero, Green Lantern has been in near-continuous publication from the 1940s through the present day. This issue's story retells the origin of Alan Scott, the Golden Age bearer of the ring. The book features a cover by Howard Purcell and interior art by GL's creator Martin Nodell, with stories by Bill Finger. The issue is a Gerber "7." CGC notes, "1st cover 7.0, interior cover 9.0."
