Quality storytelling and artwork distinguished DC from nearly every other publisher during this era, but Stan Lee's Marvel was a sleeping giant about to awake as the 1960s arrived. In regards to the comic at hand, this famous cover may be Gil Kane's most memorable, and his work on <B>Green Lantern</B></I> is arguably his best among many titles throughout DC and Marvel where he had over five decades of sterling output. This premiere key Silver Age book also retells Green Lantern's origin, and is the first appearance of the Guardians of the Universe. Advanced DC collectors know that finding a low- to mid-grade copy of this book is fairly easy, but locating a high-grade example, like this one, is next to impossible. This book is bright and clean, and almost appears unread, with just minor spine and minor edge wear. The pages are superb, and the whole book has a like new feel. Overstreet 2003 VF 8.0 value = $2,043; VF/NM 9.0 value = $3,122. <B>Estimate: $2,500-up</B> </FONT></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><BR><!--<a name="PricesRealized"></a> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" bgcolor="#000000"> <tr> <td width="100%"> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="3"> <tr> <td width="100%" bgcolor="#79735C"> <a name="PR"> <font face="arial" size="3" color="#FFFFFF"> <b>Previous Prices from Heritage Auctions</b> </td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#F6F6ED"> No Prior Data Recorded </td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#FFFFFF"> <font face="arial" size="1""> PLEASE NOTE: All prices realized reflect the final hammer price PLUS the buyer's premium in auctions that charge a buyer's premium.
