Thickly formed from lovely Celadon-green nephritic Jade this axe-form has a nicely tapered large hole and is 4-1/4" long and 2-1/2" at its widest. Probably hafted on a shaft and used as ritual authority symbol, the artifact is late Neolithic or Shang period (c. 2500-1500BC). Yunnan province and made from material available there in ancient times....its source dried up and not available today. See other pieces in the provincial museum of similar material.
