(ABC-TV, 1966-1967) Animation gouache on (3) sheets of acetate laid over clear plexiglas, combined into a 19.5 x 20” circular-window flat-black sandwich as camera-ready art for filming and manipulation. This is the key art for the entire opening title sequence for the 1966 television series The Green Hornet, which is best remembered for introducing the world to Bruce Lee, martial arts master and cult figure. By simply rotating the entire combination, a varying moiré effect is created for the camera. An exceptional and truly iconic artifact from a number of pop-cultural fields, including martial arts, comic book heroes, and fantasy on television. Originally acquired from Pacific Title and Art Studio, which supplied key art to Hollywood productions for 90 years. A few flecks of paint missing from moiré layers, hornet image is Very Fine.
