On Daunian ceramics:

Further to the east of Etruria, in the area known as Daunia, the native Italic peoples produced their own distinctive ceramic pottery between the 6th and 4th centuries B.C. Although the Daunian potters borrowed certain Greek decorative motifs and shapes, they never abandoned their traditional local style. They took special delight in human, animal, and bird forms: vases with zoomorphic bodies, handles and appendages in the shapes.of hands, ears, and faces. This ceramic has the abstract appearance of a face!

The Robert V. Fullterton Art Museum is fortunate in owning 14 examples of Daunian pottery at its most creative, encompassing a range of shapes and decoration not often found in American collections.
