Thessalos to left, naked but for chlamis and petasos flying behind him, holding band with both hands around the forehead of bull leaping left that lifts him from the ground. Rev. Bridled horse galloping right, its rein trailing below; [?]API above, [SA]IA below, all within incuse square. SNG Ashmolean 3860. AG. g. 6.01 mm. 19.00 RR. VF. The obverse of this coin depicts the taurokathapsia, a contest in which the athlete passes a band around the bull's head and pulls it tight in an attempt to bring the animal under control. Very rare.
