The lot features a circa mid-1900’s to late-1900s Cone Beaded Dress and Leggings from the Great Plains Crow Apsáalooke Native American Indians. The dress shows dark red cotton cloth construction with dark blue and white horizontal bands across the shoulders. Jingle cones are arranged across the waist and lower hem with white cloth strips. Chest area is adorned with two small mirrors, and between the mirrors is a seed bead medallion depicting a Thunderbird, seed bead colours of corn yellow, pumpkin orange, light blue, red, black, and white. Ribbons of white and lavender flow from the mirrors and medallion. The seven colours primarily used by the Crow are light blue, lavender, white (emblematic of purity), dark blue, red (represents property, blood or desire for revenge), yellow and green (represents earth). The dress is paired with a set of leg cuffs, also done in red cotton cloth with both horizontal and vertical dark blue and white colour bands. This dress was most likely worn for ceremonial celebrations. Cone loss observed at lower hem area, some colour fading and staining observed. Measures 21"W waist, 38"L, 39"W at shoulders. Leggings are 7.5"W x 16"L.
