German, sterling silver, with a wide rim engraved with an armorial shield, engraved "August 20, 1960, Schlieker Yard Hamburg, First Mid-body", hallmarked on recto and verso. 9 3/4"D. (15.52 ozt). Condition: some light scratches, otherwise excellent. Note: The U.S.S. Chiwawa was originally laid down during the early stages of WWII. After being awarded "Navy Occupation Service Medal-Asia", she was purchased in February 1960 by the Cleveland Cliffs Steamship Company for re-fitting as a Great Lakes ore carrier. Her mid-body was scrapped and the new mid-body was made at the Schlieker Yard, Hamburg.
