Wonderful colourful ESSO gas 1988-89 NHL Hockey Sticker-GORDIE HOWE as is in great condition, near mint or mint and combine this one with others to save and cherish for your collection of National Hockey League players ! Noted: Gordon named "Gordie" Howe, OC (born March 31, 1928) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player; from 1946 to 1980, Howe played twenty-six seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) and six seasons in the World Hockey Association (WHA); his 1st twenty-three seasons were spent with the Detroit Red Wings. Everyone nicknamed him "Mr. Hockey", as Howe is considered one of the greatest hockey players of all time. A 23 time NHL All-Star, Gordie Howe held many of the sport's scoring records until they were broken in the 1990's. Gordie Howe continues to hold NHL records for most games and seasons played.
Remembered: Howe was recruited by the Red Wings, with his NHL debut in 1946. Gordie Howe led the league in scoring each year from 1950 to 1954, then again in 1957 and 1963; ranking among the top ten in league scoring for 21 consecutive years, and Gordie Howe set a league record for points in a season (95) in 1953. Gordie Howe won the Stanley Cup with the Red Wings 4 times, won 6 Hart Trophies as the league's most valuable player, and won also 6 Art Ross Trophies as the leading scorer.
Gordie Howe retired in 1971 and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame the next year in 1972; he came back two years later to join his sons Mark and Marty on the Houston Aeros of the WHA. Although in his 1940s, great Gordie Howe scored over 100 points twice in six years. He made a brief return to the National Hockey League in 1979-80, played one season with the Hartford Whalers, then retired at the age of 52.
Gordie Howe is very famous for his scoring prowess, his strength, and long career; and Howe is the only player to have competed in the NHL in 5 different decades (1940s through 1980s). Only achieving the feat twice in his own career, Gordie Howe became the namesake of the "Gordie Howe hat trick" for a goal, an assist, and a fight in the same game. Howe was the inaugural recipient of the National Hockey League Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008. What a great player Gordie Howe to collect for your collection or to give as a gift !!!
