Great CDV of an Id'd 191st OVI Boy,
Great CDV of an Id'd 191st OVI Boy,<p>lacking backmark, but with period pencil identification on verso: “Herman F. Eastman 1864” over “Baltimore.” The unknown photographer made liberal use of props outfitting young Eastman with a M1860 cavalry saber hanging from a sword belt with two piece round state plate. A two-band rifle, Enfield or Mississippi, leans against a chair at left. Eastman is shouldering a regulation army blanket, having removed his seven-button jacket with cloth epaulettes and tossed it on another chair. Our first impression of the CDV was Confederate, but the identification proved otherwise. Herman Eastman enlisted in the one-year 191st Ohio on September 20, 1864 and saw service in the Washington defenses and the lower Valley in proximity to “Baltimore.”FALSE
