William & Mary pattern Farthing in silver 1694, P-623, PR62 NGC, handsome ancient, pewter-like toning, light scuffs in right obverse field but still quite choice. Edge, weight and exact diameter not discernible in the slab, but NGC designated it as this Peck variety (the question of whether it is a Proof or not depends on seeing the edge). These are varyingly called patterns, off-metal strikes, or Proofs; they precede the copper issue of 1694. Nice W&M farthings such as this piece are not easy to locate. Appears to be ex Baldwin's Auction 44, Gregory Collection (May 2, 2006), Lot 641 (as P-623, weight 4.55g), which sold for $980 (approx. $1,800).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
