William III sixpence 1697, S-3531, First draped bust, small crowns, London mint. MS63 Terner Registry PCGS; blazing luster, no flaws (other than the faintest "haymarks" on reverse) or noticeable marks, an especially sharp and clear strike, and to this cataloger's eye a clear Gem of a coin! In fact this marvelous example seems very conservatively graded as it is just gorgeous, and it seems unfair to call it merely Choice. Also, pieces from this era are typically mushy in strike, made poorly with metal flaws and off-center, but none of those failures is present on this coin, which came from a famous collection known for high-quality coins having exceptional eye-appeal. Should be worth quite a bit more than the 2007 Spink guidebook price of $275 (about $550) for the EF-grade pricing. No higher values are given in Spink because such pieces trade too infrequently to trace.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
