Victoria decimal pattern bronze "10 Cents" (Penny) 1857, Peck-1970 (states the slab insert, though it is impossible to measure the thickness of the coin in the slab), PR63 NGC, dappled surfaces, a series of huge long diebreaks, decent reflectivity left. Light golden tone. Wonderful design shows a diademed portrait of a young Queen Victoria combined with an elaborate rendition of Britannia within dual circles of beads. The alloy from which this was made is probably nickel-bronze. Peck hesitantly ascribes the engraving to James Wyon, although this piece bears much similarity to works by L.C. Wyon, and further states that most known pieces of this type came from the holdings of Montagu, which were sold in 1904. Few are known, and quite a percentage of the extant number reside in museum collections.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
