Great Britain. Pattern Halfpenny, ND. NGC MS62
Great Britain. Pattern Halfpenny, ND. Peck-730. Anne, 1702-1714. Undated, but produced as a pattern towards the end of Queen's reign. Obverse: Draped bust of Queen. Reverse: Symbolic thistle and conjoined roses demonstrating the union of England and Scotland. This important experimental coin was struck from dies by John Croker, who had succeeded to the post of Chief Engraver in 1705. Isaac Newton was Master of the Mint. Described by Peck as VR (Very Rare), this is indeed a very rare die pairing. (2+D) with the added punctuation. Deep mirror fields distinguish the obverse, which is truly free from the die rust and imperfections which plague this series. A superb overall coin. NGC graded MS-62 Brown.
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,200.
