Great Britain. Medal, 1863. B-2770. Victoria (1837-1901) 925 silver medal by Leonard Charles Wyon. Diam. Approx 63mm (2.55 inches). 'Marriage of Prince Edward to Princess Alexandra of Denmark'. Obverse: Conjoined busts of Royal couple facing right. Reverse: Shields of the two Royal families surmounted by the feathers of the Prince of Wales. The date March 10th 1863 below. Edge plain. An interesting portrait of Edward VII (as a young man) which is quite different from the familiar De Saulles bust. A large and exquisitely detailed medal toned in shades of gold and blue. Very scarce thus. NGC graded MS-63, with photo ceritificate.

* Leonard Charles Wyon (1826-1891), a member of the celebrated Wyon family of engravers, produced designs for many coins and medals of Britain and the British Empire including Australia, British East Africa, British Honduras, Canada, Cyprus Hong Kong, Jersey. He engraved the dies for Britain's gold and silver Jubilee coins of Queen Victoria and is known for his work on the (1860-1894) 'bun head' bronze coinage of Great Britain.
