George IV pattern "Lion" Shilling 1825, Bare Head, Small Lion reverse, reeded edge, the prototype for the Bare Head coinage, this marvelously engraved specimen being distinguished on its reverse by a smaller (crowned) lion atop a large central crown -- different by being more compact than the image that appears on the currency issues which began in this year. ESC-1264, rated R5, extremely rare, just 5 to 10 pieces known, of which this splendid coin is very likely the finest extant (the cataloguer, BL, has seen only two others, one impaired and the other a PR60+ with drab toning). This coin: PR66 PCGS, a Superb Gem Proof with absolutely marvelous violet-gold iridescence on the obverse, mated with exquisite golden blue and silvery green iridescence on the reverse. A stunning classic of the Georgian Age. This wondrous specimen is a Terner Registry coin at PCGS, the highest graded -- and one of a kind for quality!

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
