George III pattern double-dated Penny 1805 and 1806, S-3780 for type, P-1338 (muled dies, bronzed, rare), "MS65 BN" NGC but this is a bronzed Proof (nor is the edge visible in the slab) and a gorgeous example with exquisite, Hershey-bar chocolate-colored surfaces, but very faint hairlines. Interested bidders should definitely read Peck's comments about the origin of this piece, on pages 370-371 of his book, wherein he dispels former suppositions that this was concocted by Taylor in the 1820s: it seems a piece exists in a set purchased directly from the Soho Mint circa 1806. This cataloguer has always considered the 1805 twopence issues to be most special and very desirable. They tend to come nice. This one is no exception.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
