<B>George III pattern Penny 1797,</B></I> P-1091 (the accepted reverse combined with a larger portrait of the king), PR64 BN NGC, a coin with drop-dead eye-appeal at a glance that, under a glass, reveals small abrasions and even a thin long scratch down the obverse. These actually reflect the careless handling of specimens through a long history of collecting in the British Isles, when study of the designs and of varieties such as this, including Proofs, took precedence over fastidious care for the numismatic heritage. Nonetheless, here is a coin of delightful design and relatively fine quality.
