<B>George III Proof Shilling 1787,</B></I> S-3746, hearts in reverse shield, plain edge, PR64 PCGS, Superb Choice Proof, a few tiny "fritzies" on the king's face but still magnificent, with delightful, light gold & blue iridescence, tightly graded by PCGS, for this piece appears at a glance to be a gem. Unpriced by the Spink guidebook, in which it is called "extremely rare." This is not the pattern by Pingo listed as ESC-1241, which has a row of heavy dots along the rim on both obverse and reverse, on a smaller flan. On the Proof, as here on this coin, the rows of dots are very faint, suggestive of where reeding might appear on the edge. An absolutely wonderful, sparkling coin, truly a "special" 18th-century Proof coin!
