Using their spiritual guidance people hope to find the path to enlightenment. The Kalpa Sutra, an important Jain scripture, lists a total of 24 Tirthankaras. In art Tirthankaras are usually depicted standing in thekayotsarga pose or sitting in the lotus position on a lion throne.
