Grateful Dead 1966 Sausalito, CA Heliport Concert Poster In Their Rehearsal Space. An original blue-ink-on-white-paper concert poster for the Grateful Dead appearing at one of their favorite rehearsal spaces, the Sausalito Heliport, in the Bay-Area suburb of Sausalito, California on Saturday night, October 15, 1966. Transatlantic Railroad was the opening band. As for the promoter, Valerie Ann's? That was a hip clothing store in nearby Larkspur in Marin County.

Sausalito is conveniently located close to the 101 highway and near the northern foot of the Golden Gate Bridge, so it became popular in late '66 as an easily reached rehearsal space for local bands. For one thing, with the noise made by the helicopters, no neighbors were about to complain about mere rock bands. So it became somewhat of a musician's hangout, and a few shows were also scheduled.

Any Grateful Dead poster from 1966 outside of BG's and FD's is bound to be scarce, and this gem is no exception... only a handful of survivors have ever been spotted. It's as quaint as quaint can be, a total reflection of the band's earliest, most innocent days. Measures 14"-14 ½" (see condition details) x 22 1/2" on medium uncoated stock, and grades to Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.
