<B>Grant & Wilson: A Rare Jugate Ferrotype Pin from Grant's Second Presidential Campaign in 1872.</B></I> Jugates of Grant and Wilson are many times rarer than those showing Grant with his 1868 running mate, Schuyler Colfax. Most likely this is due to the highly predictable outcome of the 1872 election. Grant was still hugely popular, and the Democrats were divided and put up weak opposition. Accordingly there was probably little need to expend money on campaign novelties. <BR><BR>This particular variety is notoriously difficult to find in perfect condition. We have seen perhaps 6-8 examples over the years, and every one that we can recall has had damage to the ferrotype surface. The present example is superb in every respect, surely unimprovable. For the sake of accuracy, a minor flaw in the border of the frame has been professionally restored. Both "before" and "after" images are shown below. Original pin on reverse.
