Grand Admiral Karl Donitz Signed Printed Speech.
Grand Admiral Karl Dönitz Printed Speech Signed "Dönitz", one page, 8.5" x 11", Ploen, Germany, May 9, 1977. Donitz was a naval leader in Germany during World War II attaining the rank of grand-admiral and was later designated in Adolf Hitler's will to be named president of Germany, a post he held for just 20 days from Hitler's death. After the war he was convicted of war crimes at Nuremberg and served ten years at Spandau Prison. This is a typed transcript of the radio broadcast he gave on May 1, 1945 to the German people. In 1977, a collector had the Grand Admiral sign it. The broadcast was given just one day after the death of the Führer, and Donitz was a surprising choice to most of the country. The speech reads: "The Führer has nominated me as his successor. In full consciousness of my responsibilities I therefore assume the leadership of the German people at this fateful hour. My first task is to save German men and women from destruction by the advancing Bolshevist enemy. It is to serve this purpose alone that the military struggle continues. For as long as the British and the Americans continue to impede the accomplishment of this task, we must also continue to fight and defend ourselves against them. The British and the Americans in this case will not be fighting in the interests of their own people, but solely for the advancement of Bolshevism in Europe." The document is in extra fine condition; ready for framing, signature is bold and dark.
