ALS signed “Grace,” one page both sides, 6.75 x 6.5, Palais de Monaco letterhead, May 30, 1969. Letter to Rupert Allan in Beverly Hills. In full: “I just read of the death of Jeff Hunter–and it came as such a shock–What a tragedy–I would like so much to send condolences to his mother if you could possibly find out her address–Jeff Hunter & I both had bit parts in ‘Fourteen Hours’ and it was the first picture for both of us–We are off to Paris next week–We have been very busy with flower show– Grand Prix etc–Everyone is well & sends affectionate thoughts.” In fine condition, with a few small ink blots to letter, not affecting legibility, and some scattered light creases and wrinkles. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in Kelly’s hand.

Kelly’s correspondence fondly recalls memories of Hollywood and friends like Hunter, an actor who died from injuries sustained after he suffered a stroke. Hunter was her co-star in 1951’s Fourteen Hours—”the first picture for both of us.” Years later, as Princess Grace of Monaco, the retired actress tended to numerous other duties with her husband, Prince Ranier. Among them was the contest mentioned here, the Monaco Grand Prix—one of the most prestigious automobile races in the world. Fabulous connection as Princess Grace recalls her days as stunning actress Grace Kelly.
