Grace E. DeMars U of M Framed Ink Drawings 1902-03
For your consideration are two original ink drawings done by Grace Eugenie Lambert DeMars of a University of Montana cheerleader and football captain from 1902 and 1903. The first drawing in this collection was made in 1902 and shows Ray Walters, the captain of the football team, standing front and center holding a football in his arm as he looks towards the viewer. The bottom reads, "Ray Walters Captain of 1902". Ray Walters played End for the University of Montana football team in the 1901-02 season and Left End for the 1902-03, 1903-04, and the 1904-05 seasons. The ink drawing is signed by the artist at the bottom reading, "G. Eugenie DeMars". The second ink drawing shows a cheerleader for the University of Montana. She is holding a long flag reading, "U of M" and is wearing a long dress with her hair up. The bottom shows a written cheer reading, "Montana, Montana, Rah, Rah, Rah / U of M, U of M, Zip, Boom, Bah !!!". The bottom right shows the year it was made reading, 1903" and the artist signature reading, " Grace Eugenie DeMars". Both drawings are set in a black frame and sit behind glass to preserve their condition. The frames show fair condition with some wear and slight play from their age and use over the years. The drawings show good condition overall with the "Ray Walter" drawing showing a small hole in the right side but no other signs of damage are present. The pieces measure 21 5/8" L x 15 5/8" W x 1 1/8" D to 23 9/16" L x 14 5/8" W x 1 1/4" D.
