Lot of 2. 1) Goodman Gold & Silver Mining Co. Incorporated 1873. Devil's Gate Mining District, Nevada. Cert. #114 issued Oct. 17, 1877 to J.H. Kittell for 500 shares. Cancelled. Datelined Virginia City. Signed by L.B. Hastings, secretary and John Killetts, president. The Goodman held two patented claims just west of Silver City next to South End. The Goodman is named after the editor and publisher of the Territorial Enterprise while Sam Clemens was a writer. L.B. Hastings was a clerk at the justice court in Virginia City [REF: Becker Atlas, Bishop's Dir., 1878]. 2) Silver Central Mining Co. Incorporated in January, 1875. Devil's Gate District, Lyon Co., Nevada. Cert #563 issued February 14, 1876 to Tho.s L. Smith for 500 shares. U/C. Signed by secretary [illegible] and Geo. Atkinson, president. These are the first purchased stock certificates (1962) on which Clint Maish founded his collection.
