Good quality transition rapier with pierced and decorated shell guard, chiseled pommel, circa 1670-1720. The blade shows 2 blood grooves and strong 5-character blade maker marks on each side. The sword measures 41"overall; the blade measures 33" and has been reduced at least 6". The guard and pommel show a dark natural patina; the wire wrapped grip is good and the pommel nut is undisturbed. The pommel shows grotesque mask and human figures and has an Italian look. The condition is good with some pitting, loosening to the guard, normal aging, but no fakery or restoration. Est.: $600-$1,200
