Good quality 18th century French flintlock double barrel pistol signed “Cde Coignet, St. Etienne”. The pistol measures approximately 14 ½” overall with an 8” barrels of .54 caliber smoothbore. The locks, hammers and barrels show good qualityengraving and traces of original gold gilt. The metal surfaces are very good with a natural patina finish. The pistol is in original flintlock condition with one top jaw and screw replaced. The pistol retains a very unusual original belt hookmounted on the bottom side of the stock just in front of the trigger guard. The mounts are lightly engraved brass and show a good patina. The stock shows good quality carving and remains in good condition with some losses that are on the righttop edge of the stock measuring approximately 2 ½” x ¼” and a few other minor imperfections (easily restored). The trigger guard shows a crack in the strap area just behind the bow. The ramrod is an old steel replacement. Est.: $2750-$5500
