Good cast naval brass-headed piped tomahawk with attractive original burnt file decorated stem, early to mid 19th century. The head measures 8-3/8” from the tip of the blade to the tip of the bowl and approx. 3-3/8” across the widest portion of the blade. The head shows a dark uncleaned patina finish, and the inside of the bowl shows smoking. The head shows good wear at the edges, carry, and use. The head is mounted on its original shaft, which is in very good plus to near fine condition showing some smoking, carry and use. The shaft measures 24-1/2” in length and nearly 1-5/8” across widest part of body. The hole for ornaments is correctly drilled, and the shaft shows some small losses and normal aging, but is very good plus to near fine overall. A great looking tomahawk that has had no modern reworking and is the way that collectors like to see them with a proper patina around the shaft and head where they meet. From the William R. Orbelo Collection. Est: $7,000 - $14,000
