Gone With the WindTelegram To David O. Selznick (1938).A historic telegram authorizing producer David O. Selznick to enter into contracts with Loews, Inc. for the Civil War epic.

Dated August 26, 1938, the telegram from John Hay Whitney reads in full, "As member of Executive Committee [for Selznick International Pictures, Inc.] I hereby approve execution of contracts with Loews Incorporated regarding Gone With the Wind and authorize David O. Selznick as President to execute contracts on behalf of Corporation / John Hay Whitney."

David O. Selznick wanted Clark Gable to play the role of Rhett Butler, but since Gable was contracted to MGM and therefore unavailable, Selznick forged an agreement with Loew's -- MGM's parent company -- to help finance the film, share profits, and loan out Gable. Telegram measures 8" x 5.75". Light wear and creasing (along with chipping and holes), otherwise Near Fine condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.
