Gone With The Wind Screen-Used Side Chairs. A vestige of the opulence of the Old South, as magnificently recreated in David O. Selznick's Gone With the Wind, this set of two screen-used side chairs survived the troubled 1939 production of the beloved epic. Highly visible in the Reconstruction-era Butler estate, the chairs were used in multiple scenes, specifically flanking the massive dining table of the Butler home. Constructed in oak, the legs and stiles are of clustered columns, the legs sitting on round stepped base and connected with an "H" stretcher. The back is in an ogee arch with quatre foil tracery framing an arched chenille upholstered inset. The seat mimics the columnar legs, with octagonal corners, and at center is a chenille upholstered inset. Repeating the quatre foil tracery of the back, the seat is supported on three sides with tracery raising up on arching from the leg. Originally acquired from the historic MGM auction of props and wardrobe, the chairs were subsequently displayed in the rare book store Heritage Book Shop (not affiliated with Heritage Auctions) in West Hollywood. Accompanying the lot is a New York Times article on Heritage Book Shop referencing the chairs and their inclusion in Gone With the Wind, as well as images of the chairs from the film. Measuring 35" x 20" x 21.75", the chairs are in Fine condition with some nicking, minor decorative loss and separating of decorative joints.Condition Report: Side 1 - Wear normal to age, base of left stile is missing the interior lobe.
