Goldfield,NV - Esmeralda County - c1904 - Lumber Wagon Photograph :
A twenty mule train full of lumber arrives to an early Goldfield. Photograph measures 7”x5”, no matte, high to medium contrast—suffers from minor yellowing, and focus is sharp. There is a faint water stain on the upper right hand corner. Photographer identified as A. Allen from Goldfield. Photo reads, LUMBER ARRIVING AT GOLDFIELD. This photo portrays the logistical reality of the times. Most mining camps, in their infancy, were not connected to any rail system. All supplies came and went by wagon. The twenty mule team was the largest used. Given the huge load of lumber, one can see why they are using a twenty mule team. In addition, it is probable that the twenty mule team reloaded with ore for the return. No. 94.
