A crowd in front of the Nixon Building listen to W.J. Brewer. Photograph measures 9 3/8”x7 3/8”, no matte, high contrast—minor yellowing, and focus is sharp—image blurs on the left side of the photo. There is a tear on the left of the photo one inch in length and another very small tear on the top. There is also a crease on the upper right corner. Photographer identified as Larson. Photograph reads “W. J. Brewer Addressing the Citizens for Removal of County Seat to Goldfield, Nev.” The profile of Brewer can be easily seen in the photo. 1906 and 1907 were eventful years for Goldfield. Starting as a tent camp in 1902, Goldfield was the largest city in Nevada by 1906 with 30,000 people. In the same year it was also host to the World Heavyweight Boxing Championship. The county seat was moved to Goldfield in early 1907 from Hawthorne. No. 4291.
