Goldfield Consolidated Mines Co., Goldfield, Nevada, 10c, $1 and a partial piece of 25c, 1907. Black & red on light card stock, hole canceled, small "chit" size. Goldfield's largest mine began issuing these scrip notes in response to money leaving circulation during the Panic of 1907. Extremely unpopular with the miners, these small "notes" and other practices prompted revolts until the US Army eventually arrived. Use of these pieces was halted, and almost all were destroyed. The consignor searched for more than 30 years and these were the only examples ever found of this elusive paper scrip from a famous mining company. Douglas McDonald Collection.
