Golden Age flintlock Kentucky rifle with raised carved stock, fancy horsehead patchbox, silver inlays, signed “J.A. Albright”, on barrel and “JA” on lock. This Kentucky is featured in Gunsmiths of Bedford, Somerset, and Foulter Counties by Whisker, page 63. The rifle originally was made late 18th century by Henry Albright and restocked by John Amos about 1825. The rifle is beautiful and considered by many sophisticated collectors among the best of the Bedford County style with carryover from the golden age, and shows Amos’ signature on lock. A folder of provenance and history is included. Physical Description: The rifle measures 61-1/2” overall with 46” barrel of approx. .52 caliber rifled. The metal surfaces show a grey to brown patina finish with some scattered light erosion and pinprick pitting. The lock shows an expert reconversion back to flint. The stock is good with crisp raised carved scrolls at butt in fancy Bedford County form, with fancy brasswork and four silver lightly engraved inlays on each side of the barrel, one on each side of the wrist, a large silver inlay on the cheekpiece, and at rear just behind the lock.
