Description: Offered for your bidding pleasure is this 1872 Presentation Cane. This cane shows much wear on the tip, consistent with the type of wear you find on Native American Dance items from the period. This cane is inscribed to, R. Eagle. There are similar, historical canes (known as the Lincoln canes) that were first given to 19 Pueblos of the New Mexico Territory to signify the Federal Government would honor the land grants as previously done by Spain and Mexico and recognize the Governors as the tribal authorities. The Lincoln canes were inscribed with the presentation year and President Lincoln’s name. The top of this cane appears to be plated gold and says, To my father, R. Eagle, From (looks like the initials RWE) and is dated Oct. 31, 1872. We could find no other info on “R. Eagle” or the cane. Maker: Unknown maker. Approx. Age: Dated 1872. Size: 36-1/4” overall length. Condition: Good for its age, normal wear expected. Please look closely at the pictures - they are an important part of our description. Shipping: There will be a $5 handling / packaging fee for shipping this lot. The actual cost of postage will be added on top of that.
