From the book, “Texas Ranger Tales” by Mike Cox: “In 1909 someone presented Captain Frank Johnson with the most ornamental of the known Ranger badges. It is a star-in-a-wheel. At the top of the wheel is “Capt. Frank Johnson.” Beneath are the words “Texas Ranger Force”
Frank Johnson was elected Sheriff of Mitchell County, Texas November 8, 1904 and reelected on November 8, 1904 and November 6th 1906. He served until July 1907. Mitchell County was created from Bexar County in 1876. “

As a Texas Ranger, Johnson was Captain of Company “A” and worked out of Colorado City, Texas from January 1907 to August 1910. He had a storied career and is mentioned in several books on the Rangers, and in numerous news articles.
