Gold Rush era trunk from the Holabird-Evans family. Ornately Painted cowhide, damaged in office flood. We have seen only one other, at the small Old Mill Museum in San Marino near the Huntington Library. We have no definitive information on the trunk other than family lore. It came through our grandmother's family, Cora Evans, and reportedly came west along the southern route in the 1850s. She told us the Clarks were part of the wagon train, but which Clarks?. It was a cherished family heirloom for over 150 years until an unfortunate flood hit my office in Reno.
