Kushana Dynasty, Kanishka II (230-240 CE), Gold Dinar, "Ardokhsho" type, Obv: crowned king, nimbate, standing facing left, sacrificing over altar, a ribboned trident surmounts the altar, holding a filleted standard in his left hand, Brahmi initials 'Viru' to the outer right and 'Nya' at the left near altar, Bactrian legend “þAONANOþAOKA ... N... ηþKOKOþANO”around the field, Rev: the goddess Ardokhsho enthroned, nimbate, facing forward, holding a cornucopia in her left hand and a diadem in her extended right hand, a tamgha in upper left field, the Bactrian legend "APΔOXþO" (ARODKHSHO) on the right field, 7.62g, 21.44mm, (Shrava # 314), about extremely fine, Rare.
Note: On this coin Kanishka II reintroduces the depiction of the goddess Ardokhsho, a motif frequently found on coins of Kanishka and Huvishka. The absence of this goddess on coins during Vasudeva's reign suggests a pause in its representation. Notably, the legends on this coin are clearer, offering a detailed view of the throned goddess, including a complete representation of the throne or chair. The Brahmi legends 'Vi Ru' and 'Nya' are distinctly visible, likely making their first appearance. It is as an Ex Lot from Marudhar Arts.
