Unprecedented assemblage of sixteen blueprints related to the construction of the Corleone Mall and other set pieces from the classic 1971 film The Godfather. Each blueprint is expertly accomplished in graphite on drafting paper ranging in size from 24.5 x 18 to 36.5 x 54.5, and feature United Scenic Artists, Local 829 and Alfran Productions/The Godfather stamps, the latter indicating date, drafter, and sheet and set numbers. The majority consist of exterior designs and outline plans for the Don’s office, the only room specifically constructed on the Norton family’s Staten Island property; all other interior scenes were filmed in different locations. The blueprints include: woodwork designs for the inner office; a roof section layout; a detailed lower floor plan; interior of house and office designs; outer entry floor patterns; details for wall coping; stonework ideas, and profiles and sections for cemetery and monuments; guard house details; office window and bookcase designs; scroll detail for an entrance gate; plot plans for toll booths on Long Island Causeway; and layouts for a trellis, bandstand, and dance floor to be filmed during the opening wedding scene. The blueprints were created by noted production designer Dean Tavoularis, whose work also appeared in The Godfather: Part II and Apocalypse now; Tavoularis won an Oscar for his work on the former film. In overall very good to fine condition. Oversized. As expertly crafted architectural diagrams for the creation of Vito Corleone’s personal office and premises, this aesthetically appealing collection reinforces the type of top-level talent and strict attention-to-detail that went into the production of The Godfather.
