Glibert,NV - Esmeralda County - c1926 - Gilbert Club Photograph :
This black a white photograph measures 10’’x 8 ½’’. Contrast is medium and focus is sharp. No photographer can be identified but was produced by the Black-D Photo Service in Los Angles, California. It’s in fine condition with wear and a piece of the upper right corner has been torn off. Four Women stand in front of a wooden building. White letters painted on the side read “The Gilbert Club Where Gentlemen Meet. Cigars, Tobacco, Candy, Cigarettes.” The four women are dress in 1920s attire and look shyly at the camera, perhaps waiting for some gentlemen of the town to stop by. There is also a 1920’s car on the left hand side of the photograph. Gilbert was a mining town 25 miles west of Tonopah. Named after three brothers who found gold there, the town formed in 1924. In 1926 the town had 400 people, but quickly declined. By the early 1930s the town was abandoned.
