Glenn Gould Typed Letter Signed "Glenn". Two pages, 7.25" x 10", personal letterhead, June 30, 1959, to Gladys Shenner. A chatty, upbeat letter to the great pianist's friend, journalist Gladys Shenner. It reads in part: "...your fame as a foreign correspondent reached its zenith with a picture on the front page of the Globe and Mail, in which, doggoned, if you didn't look glamorous as hell! I assume that your mother saw it and sent it to you...For the past week I have been on top of the world. I have been luxuriating in the glow of the NFB movie spotlight and I believe I have finally found my true place in this world. I am, forsooth, an actor, something my public has long suspected anyway...This movie-making has done more for my morale and indeed enthusiasm for life in general than anything else within memory...". Great content with three inscribed edits and a bold signature. Very fine condition. Gould signatures are rare and valuable. A Wall Street Journal article published August 29, 2006 stated that "Gouldiana has become more expensive than memorabilia of any other 20th-century pianist, dealers say. A signed Gould photo in good condition can fetch up to $5,000, compared with about $700 for one featuring the pianist Arthur Rubinstein."
